There are so many activities which have always brought tourists to Nkhata Bay and whether you are staying at the Lodge for a few days or volunteering for a while, there is a lot going on to keep you busy.
Firstly, we have to mention the Lake. Butterfly Space is based at the bottom of a cliff facing the water of Lake Malawi. The fresh water is so clear here, you can always see the different species of fish swimming around at your feet in the water. The lake offers many activities including jumping off eight metre high rocks which is just a small boat ride away from Butterfly to hiring out kayaks or trying your hand at the traditional dugout canoes. We also provide snorkeling gear to keep you entertained throughout the day!
There are also many trekking routes across Nkhata Bay where you can find yourself chatting to locals in traditional villages to looking over at the incredible view of the Bay.
Local operators and friends of Butterfly include, Aqua Africa who offer incredibly cheap PADI Open Water Courses along with Fun Dives and Night Dives where you’ll find yourself diving in some of the world’s best fresh water diving spots. Or why not try your hand with a unique safari adventure with Go Bananaz Safaris. They cater to your every need and will provide an experience which will specifically suit you. Imagine sleeping underneath the stars on a deserted beach or cutting back the bush with machetes to find your camping spot in the wild. Other operators include Monkey Business who offer the popular 4 day kayaking trip which will take you 60KM up the lake to the stunningly beautiful Rurawe. There are also islands to visit – check out Wakwenda Retreat on Chizumulu Island, set a stunning location where you can get away from it all for few days!
You can also go on a sunset boat ride, eat at the popular British run Thai restaurant Kaya Papaya or dance away at one of the local night clubs. As always there is a lot going on to keep you entertained in Nkhata Bay!
